Fourth-year medical students may participate in clinical rotations at Université de Strasbourg (Unistra), one of Europe’s best research universities, located in picturesque Alsace across the Rhine River from Germany.

Rotation Details
Previous Feinberg students have completed rotations at Nouveau Hôpital Civil, the University of Strasbourg teaching hospital. While in Strasbourg, students completing rotations in pulmonary medicine may gain experience reading chest radiographs and CT scans, assist on procedures such as arterial blood gas tests and observe patients treated for lung cancer and tuberculosis. Students have also completed rotations in interventional radiology, pathology and thoracic surgery. Patients speak mostly French, some speak German and a few speak Alsatian, a local German dialect. Most doctors speak English as well as French. A typical rotation will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until approximately 5.00 p.m., Monday through Friday. French medical staff and students dress casually during rotations.

Accommodations
Strasbourg, as described by a previous student, is a “stunningly beautiful city.” Travel to other parts of France and Germany is done by high speed train and is very easy and accessible.
