Global Innovation Challenge Funding
for faculty- Description
The Havey Institute for Global Health is pleased to offer support to affiliated Northwestern faculty for research in global health. The Global Innovation Challenge mechanism is intended to encourage exploratory and cutting edge research by providing support for early and conceptual stages of project development geared towards addressing healthcare needs worldwide.

- Eligibility
Eligible project scopes are exploratory, novel studies that break new ground or extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications globally. This award supports high risk, high reward, and high visibility studies that may lead to a breakthrough in a particular global area, or result in novel techniques, agents, devices, methodologies, models or applications that will impact global biomedical, behavioral or clinical research. Projects should be distinct from those supported through traditional R21 or R01 mechanisms.
All applicants must have an active appointment at Northwestern University (tenure track, non-tenure track, or adjunct). Early and mid-career faculty will be prioritized. Multi-Principal Investigators (MPI) are encouraged, and at least one Multi-Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator must be located at an affiliated institution outside of the United States. Projects are required to demonstrate significant collaboration with its non-US partner(s).

The purpose of this grant is to provide research support to Northwestern faculty who are a) collecting preliminary data to support a future grant submission and/or b) supplemental support for ongoing sponsored-research for work outside the aims and/or scope of work of the funded project. The fund is not meant to support the same aims of an existing study or projects that lack a specific plan to obtain sponsor-support. Eligible projects must have a significant component of the study based in a low or middle-income country.
All applicants must have a full-time appointment at Northwestern University and be a member of the Institute for Global Health.

Research Catalyzer Funding: COVID-19
for faculty- Description
The Havey Institute for Global Health is pleased to share this call for applications to supporting member faculty research projects directly related to the treatment, diagnosis, monitoring, prevention or modelling of COVID-19 disease.

The purpose of this grant is to provide research support to Northwestern faculty who are a) collecting preliminary data to support a future grant submission and/or b) supplemental support for ongoing sponsored-research for work outside the aims and/or scope of work of the funded project. Eligible projects must have a significant component of the study based in a low or middle-income country. Special awards will be made for CoVAXCEN themed projects.

Research Catalyzer Funding: Primary Care

The Havey Institute for Global Health is pleased to share this call for applications to supporting member faculty research projects focused on improving Primary Care services and systems throughout the world.

Student Global Health Research Award
for students- Description
Support for Northwestern University students who wish to carry out a global health research project under the supervision or mentorship of a Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health-affiliated faculty member. The Havey Institute for Global Health offers up to $2,500 to support travel and other modest expenses related to global health research at global sites.
- Eligibility
- Current Northwestern University students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs who wish to conduct a global health research project for four to eight weeks at global sites. Applicants are required to have the mentorship of a Havey Institute for Global Health-affiliated faculty member. Students should be mindful of the NU Travel Policies and Feinberg Student International Travel Policy and Procedures, as it corresponds to them.
