Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC) is located in Xueyuan Rd., Haidian District, a cultural area of Beijing with many university campuses. It is in the center of the well-known Zhong Guan Cun Hi-Tech Zone. PUHSC is a well-structured, multi-disciplined comprehensive medical education center with a long history.

PUHSC offers a full range of courses for eight specialties, including basic medical sciences, clinical medicine, preventive medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, medical laboratory diagnosis and biomedical English. It has 47 accredited doctoral programs and 59 master’s degree programs. In addition to offering undergraduate and graduate programs, it also plays an active role in continuing education. PUHSC hosts six postdoctoral programs.

Rotation Details

Feinberg students are given the unique opportunity to rotate in the oncology wards at Peking University’s affiliated teaching hospitals, where an integrated approach to cancer treatment has been adopted using both western techniques and traditional Chinese medicine. Peking University does its best to match students with attendings who speak English.

The clinical electives at PKUHSC usually start on the first Monday (unless there is a holiday) of March, April, May, June, September, November, and December. The October rotation begins on the 2^nd Monday of the month. All rotations end on a Friday. Any other timeslots will not be accepted.

Accommodations & Living Expenses

On-campus dormitories are very limited. As most of the affiliated hospitals and teaching hospitals are not located around the campus, it is recommended to book a hotel near the hospital where you will conduct your clerkship. Local Chinese food is inexpensive, and meals can be purchased for under $5 per meal, but foreign-style food is more expensive in the $15-$20 range. Public transportation for buses and trains costs less than $1 per ride. Some students have had success renting an apartment, but you will need local family or friends in Beijing to assist.
