Annelise Riles, PhD, JD, MSc - Board Chair
Annelise Riles, PhD, JD, MSc, is Executive Director of the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs and Associate Provost for Global Affairs, as well as Professor of Law and Professor of Anthropology (by courtesy) at Northwestern University. She is a recipient of the Humboldt Foundation's Annelise Maier Prize. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, a J.D from Harvard Law School, an M.Sc. in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics, and an A.B. from Princeton University. Her research concerns the culture of legal institutions and she has conducted extensive field research in international organizations and in the global financial markets. She writes about subjects ranging from human rights to financial regulation, and her work spans the disciplines of law and anthropology. Her most recent book is Financial Citizenship: Experts, Publics, and the Politics of Central Banking (Cornell University Press).
Namratha Kandula, MD, MPH
Namratha Kandula, MD, MPH, is a tenured Associate Professor of Medicine and Preventive Medicine and Co-Director of IPHAM's Center for Community Health at Feinberg. Her research, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health, is dedicated to advancing knowledge about how immigration, culture, and social environment influence cardiovascular disease risk in immigrants and racial/ethnic minorities.
She is Principal Investigator for the MASALA study which is the first and largest study to understand causes of high rates of heart disease in South Asians immigrants in the United States. She is also the Principal Investigator for the South Asian Healthy Lifestyle Intervention (SAHELI) study and South Asians Active Together (SAATH) studies, which are community-based clinical trials testing culturally adapted interventions to improve the cardiovascular health of South Asians across the lifespan. Her research is conducted in partnership with communities so that it is relevant, useful and sustainable outside the walls of academia.
Donald M Lloyd-Jones, MD, ScM, FACC, FAHA
Donald M Lloyd-Jones, MD, ScM, FACC, FAHA, is the senior associate dean for clinical and translational research, and Eileen M. Foell Professor and chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Feinberg. His research interests include the study of the mechanisms and life course of cardiovascular health and healthy aging, and cardiovascular disease epidemiology, risk estimation, and prevention. A main focus of his research has been investigation of the life course of chronic diseases of aging, lifetime risks for various cardiovascular diseases, and factors which modify those risks. Other areas of interest include cardiovascular disease risk estimation using novel biomarkers, imaging of subclinical atherosclerosis, and the epidemiology and outcomes of hypertension and dyslipidemia. His clinical and teaching interests lie in general cardiology, with a focus on prevention.
