Faculty & Alumni Outreach Opportunities
This program is intended for Northwestern Medicine faculty members and Northwestern alumni who are licensed in their fields to volunteer abroad and work with underserved communities to provide mindful clinical care. These community-based clinics are affiliated with Northwestern as part of our global partners network and have a need for experienced, licensed clinicians to serve as preceptors. They look for physicians and physical therapists who are qualified both in the scope of their practice and their understanding of the complexities of global health. This community-based program serves as an introduction for physicians with interest in helping address this need. We look forward to the development of programs committed to sustainability, equity and education.
The following volunteer opportunities are available:
- Centro Medico Humberto Parra near Santa Cruz, Bolivia
- Hillside Health Care International in Eldridgeville, Belize
- Rural Aid Organization in Shirati, Tanzania
Clinician Commitment
We seek to foster longitudinal relationships with organizations that promote equitable and sustainable healthcare with a focus on local populations. A period of acclimatization is always necessary when traveling to new surroundings. In order to make the most of this program, the duration and recurrent nature of visits permit clinician volunteers to learn and grow with the program to optimize their contributions and the quality of their overall experience. As a best practice, we encourage at least four weeks at a site with plans to return to contribute further.
Global Health Faculty Travel Funding
