Kate Klein and Elizabeth Christian from Havey Institute for Global Health met with Bethany Ekesa from SPARC, and Mordecai Tayebwa, Harriet Nambooze, and Peruth Ainembabazi from Makerere University.

The goals of the grant, which is active from July 2024 to December 2025, are to strengthen NIH grants administration at Makerere University by providing senior researcher administrators with advanced training and mentored exposure. The aims are to offer best emergency response grants management practices both pre and post award, as well as to enrich standard operating procedures. Additionally, the team develops training for standard operating practices to enhance the implementation of institutional best grants management practices at Makerere University and other Ugandan research partner institutions for best practices and continuous trainings in both pre and post award management.

Havey Institute for Global Health will host team members from Makerere in Chicago in March 2025, and will begin trainings on site in Uganda in summer 2025.

Members of the grant team met in conjunction with their attendance at the Society of Research Administrators International.
