This curriculum is a compilation of online lectures relating to global health. This is intended to be used as an educational resource for physicians volunteering abroad and to precept students during global health rotations. Many of the following lectures, topics and resources are specific to Hillside Healthcare International in Belize, however, these tools have been developed for anyone participating in a volunteer program in resource-limited settings. There is also information about evaluating other potential overseas clinical partners for quality and sustainability if you are considering working at other sites. A region-specific curriculum is also recommended to prepare you for your experience.
Numerous online courses have been developed for both faculty and students to provide global health training resources. The following curriculum is a compilation of selected modules from various sites. The introduction (Section 1) and the cultural competency section (Section 6) are recommended for everyone. Participants in the Hillside program are required to complete HHCI specific lectures as well as review of the core curriculum competencies. There are some core teaching/talking points that have been outlined on the Belize page for faculty moderation; we would encourage all educators to review this document as it will provide the framework for teaching.
Most of these modules were obtained from the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) and Unite for Sight. Review the sections below for links to curriculum content.
Another resource would be to purchase a course from Humanitarian U.
