Talk Title: Global Heath Diplomacy: The Minamta Treaty

Dr. Peter Orris maintains an active clinical and teaching practice in Occupational Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and holds Professorships on the faculties of the Northwestern University and Rush University Medical Schools in Preventive and Internal Medicine respectively. He practiced and taught general internal medicine at Cook County (Stroger) Hospital for over thirty 35 years with over fifteen years as Chair of the Institutional Review Board for the protection of patients in medical research and several terms as President of the staff. He has been a consultant for fire departments, the International Association of Fire Fighters, US National Fire Prevention Association, multiple national and international corporations and trade unions, as well as Greenpeace and many other environmental groups.
Dr. Orris is a senior advisor to Health Care Without Harm and has collaborated with the World Health Organization on programs to mitigate climate change and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. He has represented health organizations and concerns in the negotiation of 3 international treaties focused on the elimination of toxic chemical poisoning including chlorinated organics and mercury. He has served on the Boards of Public Health for the State of Illinois, Chicago Physicians for Social Responsibility, and was a founder of Physicians for National Health Program as well as the first Committee on Occupational Health and Safety (COSH) group. He is an active member of the American Public Health Association and serves as a liaison for it with the World Federation of Public Health Associations. Orris has edited and authored numerous articles, book chapters and governmental reports in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
