Biography: Professor Mboup is a board member of several international scientific associations working in the field of HIV/AIDS and has developed collaborations and partnerships with well-known research institutions and organizations like Harvard University, l’INSERM in France, Tours and Limoges University, and the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. He has participated in many research activities and contributed to the publication of hundreds of scientific articles and books among which is “AIDS in Africa”. Some of the research activities in which Professor Mboup has contributed include:
Professor Mboup has made valuable contributions in the malaria and TB areas of research. Recently, he has undertaken state-of-the-art immunomonitoring of the prevalence and incidence of tuberculosis and malaria in Dakar. This
work is very relevant to the utilization of improved ELISPOT-based assays for the diagnosis of TB infection and also provides baseline data for the assessment of new intervention strategies. One of these is the evaluation of the MVA85A vaccine.
Professor Mboup is in charge of the “HIV epidemiology sentinelle surveillance program” of Senegal. He is among those who implemented "l’Initiative Sénégalaise d’Accès aux Antirétroviraux (ISAARV)" through which people living with HIV have access to free antiretroviral drugs. His laboratory is a reference laboratory for UNAIDS and WHO and a regional training center where each year about thirty African researchers are trained in the monitoring of patients under antiretroviral treatment and in laboratory techniques.
In conclusion, Professor Souleymane Mboup has already received many awards and honors of which the 1st Award of the African AIDS Society (SAA), the Arthur Houghton Jr. Star Crystal Award (African American Institute), the 1st Award of the French National Academy of Pharmacy for “Francophone Pharmacy), the Excellence Award of the Head of State Of Senegal. He is a member of the Academy of Sciences and Technology of Senegal.
